'Hustle & Flow' Director & Terrance Howard, Together Again

terrance howard craig brewerLast collaborating on a film that spawned such pimp-turned-basement-tape-
ghetto-star hits as “Whoop That Trick” and “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp”, Hustle and Flow director Craig Brewer (pictured - middle) and star Terrance Howard (right) have another in the works - this time a biopic of country star Charley Pride, reports Variety. In the same vein as Joaquin Phoenix’s role in Walk the Line, Howard will take guitar in hands and sing Pride’s hits throughout the film, which follows him through a stint in baseball’s Negro League, his relationship with wife Rozene, and the transition from baseball to a music industry and audience not ready for a non-white superstar. Said Brewer (whose next film in theaters will be the sexually charged Black Snake Moan, with Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci), “When Jackie Robinson broke the barrier, there was a flood of talent that came after him, but Charley was alone.”
